Jane A. Weida, MD, is the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation. She chairs the AAFP/F Development Committee, Governance Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee, and serves on the AAFP/F Executive Committee and Program Committee. Dr. Weida is also on the board of AAFP Insurance Services, Inc. 

A family physician, Dr. Weida was in private practice for 13 years in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. She spent six years at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where she practiced both inpatient and outpatient Family Medicine and taught medical students. While at Hershey she received several educational grants, including a HRSA grant, for which she developed a web site to help community preceptors objectively evaluate medical students’ case presentations. She also chaired the Woodward Endowment Committee, which provided grants for educational research. Dr. Weida is now on the faculty at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency. She is the medical student Clerkship Director, and she recently developed a Community Health elective for fourth-year medical students. She teaches residents and medical students as well as practicing outpatient and inpatient Family Medicine. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine.

Dr. Weida received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and a MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. She was employed in pharmaceutical research for Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Labs, West Point, Pennsylvania, for six years prior to starting medical school. She received her MD in 1986 from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Weida served as the 2007-2008 President of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP). She has served as President-Elect, Vice President and Treasurer of the PAFP as well as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the PAFP Foundation. She currently serves as an Alternate Delegate from Pennsylvania to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates. She is a member of the PAFP Planning Commission, Health Care Policy Commission, Legal and Governmental Affairs Commission and Executive Committee. She also works with the Pennsylvania Academy of Pediatrics, serving on the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Committee of the Governor’s Community Partnership for Safe Children. At Hershey Medical Center, she was a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and the Academic Team, and she was a volunteer physician for the Lion Care student-run free clinic for indigent patients in Harrisburg.

Dr. Weida has participated in six humanitarian medical airlifts through the AAFP Foundation Physicians With Heart program. She was co-Course Director for the Family Medical Symposium in Tajikistan in 2007, in Kyrgyzstan in 2008 and in the Republic of Georgia in 2009.

Dr. Weida is happily married to Dr. Thomas Weida. Dr. Weida has two daughters, one of whom majored in piano performance and the other of whom majored in theatre. She and her husband live in Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
