Michelle Jones, MD, FAAFP, a Board Certified Family Physician from Wilmington, North Carolina, is entering her second year as a Chapter member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees. She has been in the private practice of Family Medicine with Wilmington Health Associates, a large multi-specialty group, since 1999 and enjoys providing the full scope of Family Medicine.
She began her career in Family Medicine as a student at East Carolina University and completed her internship and residency at Duke University. It was during her training that Dr. Jones became active in the American Academy of Family Physicians and served on the Commission on Quality and Scope of Practice and the Commission on Scientific Program. She was also elected as the student to the Board of Directors to the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.
As a resident, Dr. Jones participated in the humanitarian airlift to the Republic of Georgia with Physicians with Heart.
Dr. Jones served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians from 2003-2009 and was President in 2007 and Board Chair in 2008. She participated on the board of the NCAFP Foundation and helped raise $500,000 for a student endowment fund.
As a senior attending physician at New Hanover Health Network in Wilmington, Dr. Jones has led the Division of Family Medicine and participated in many committees. She is currently medical director of the Convenient Care Clinic at Wilmington Health Associates. Teaching medical students has been one of her passions and she has been very excited to see her former students begin their careers in Family Medicine.
