The AAFP Foundation Philanthropist of the Year Award (POY) is given by the AAFP Foundation to individuals who set a standard of excellence in Family Medicine philanthropy.

2011 Philanthropist of the Year Award

The 2011 Philanthropist of the Year Award was presented to Dr. William Phillips, MD, FAAFP, of Seattle, Washington. Dr. Phillips has served on the Board of Curators for the Center for the History of Family Medicine since 2004 and provided a generous initial gift to establish the “Fellowship in the History of Family Medicine.” He currently serves as the Theodore J. Phillips Endowed Professor in Family Medicine, as well as a clinical professor of health services at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Phillips has a long, consistent record serving his community and specialty both locally and nationally. His tremendous commitment to his community, his patients and his specialty was recognized by the Washington chapter when it awarded Dr. Phillips with its highest honor in 1999, the WAFP Family Physician of the Year.
