Dr. Douglass A. Haddock, who served as the President of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees from 1990 to 1992, passed away on September 26, 2010. He was a trustee of the Foundation (formerly FHFA) from 1982 to 1992.
As a child, Dr. Haddock would go with his father, who was also a physician, on "house calls" in the middle of the night. These visits are what inspired him to go into the medical profession. He attended the University of Michigan Medical School after serving three years in the Air Force. As a compassionate and well-loved family physician, Dr. Haddock cared for the people of the Portage/Kalamazoo region in Michigan for over 40 years. In addition to caring for his own patients, he was a vital advocate in the education of new physicians, which would in turn improve overall health care in the community.
Dr. Haddock also served in many leadership roles throughout the AAFP. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, he served on many committees and was in a leadership position at the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan AFP in 2005. Throughout his life, Dr. Haddock was an inspiring advocate for education and the Family Medicine specialty.
