Education

Family Medicine is the best solution to the long-term health needs of the nation. Attracting and training interested students and future family physicians ensures future health care needs will be met, people will receive care and nations will be healed. We believe education of physicians and their patients is essential to improving the health of all people.
AAFP Center for International Health Initiatives -- Assists in the development of deliberately trained, competent, generalist physicians to meet the health needs of the community and the country.
AAFP Foundation Pfizer Immunization Awards -- These awards recognize Family Medicine Residency programs that have achieved high or improved immunization rates in children or adults, or are implementing a system to increase immunization rates, especially in medically underserved populations.
AAFP Foundation/Pfizer Visiting Professorship Program in Family Medicine -- AAFP Foundation/Pfizer Visiting Professorship Program in Family Medicine is bringing educational benefits to U.S. medical schools, teaching hospitals and community hospitals.
Americans in Motion -- An initiative designed to improve the health of all Americans by implementing a multi-faceted fitness program addressing physical activity, nutrition and emotional well-being in the individual, family and community.
Cities for Life -- Cities for Life is a direct result of the Behavior Economics Roundtable on Diabetes, which took place on June 2, 2011.
Family Medicine Interest Groups -- Exist at U.S. allopathic medical schools to enhance student interest in Family Medicine.
James G. Jones, MD, Student Scholarship Program -- This program was created as a way for Dr. Jones to demonstrate his continuing commitment to the education of medical students.
Peers for Progress -- A global peer support program designed to address the growing diabetes epidemic by complementing and enhancing the collaborative efforts of primary care physicians, patients and diabetes educators.
Pfizer Teacher Development Awards -- This annual award recognizes outstanding, community-based family physicians who combine clinical practice with part-time teaching of Family Medicine.
Residents & Students Initiatives Fund - National Conference Scholarships -- This provides scholarships to students and residents interested in attending National Conference.
Spanish Translation -- The AAFP Foundation supports the continual translation of content on Familydoctor.org from English to Spanish.
Student Externship Matching Grants -- Stimulate interest among medical students to select a career, and/or pursue research opportunities in Family Medicine.
Tar Wars -- Focuses on the short-term, image-based consequences of tobacco use and teaches students how to think critically about tobacco advertising.
Time to Talk CARDIO -- Time to Talk CARDIO is a program is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular health by helping to enhance the dialogue between patients and health care providers.
