AAFP Foundation

Disaster Assistance Program

This program provides a means by which AAFP members can donate funds to colleagues who are disadvantaged by a disaster. It provides support to family physicians who have undergone uninsured losses to their medical practices and/or who need help to get their practices up and running again in a time of crisis. The constituent chapters assist in the decision-making and distribution processes.

"It is gratifying to know that someone is concerned for me and my clinic."

                       Dr. Emejulu

Most recently, the Foundation has assisted Dr. Herbert Emejulu. Dr. Emejulu practices in Port Arthur, Texas, an area hit by both Hurricane Rita in 2005 and again by Hurricane Ike this past September. He is planning to use these funds to replace essential items in his practice such as furniture and lab supplies.  Dr. Emejulu was sponsored by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

"It is gratifying to know that someone is concerned for me and my clinic.  The fact that the Foundation cares gives me enormous strength and makes me so proud of our association," said Dr. Emejulu.
