2010: Physicians With Heart Returns to Tajikistan
The 2010 Physicians With Heart airlift will return to Tajikistan, a former Soviet Republic. The AAFP Foundation will partner with the U.S. State Department and Heart to Heart International to provide humanitarian aid to this Central Asian nation. The mission of the Physicians With Heart project is to procure and distribute medical aid, provide medical education to local physicians and to improve the quality of life for children in the host country.
About Tajikistan:
Tajikistan is located in Central Asia and is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north and the People's Republic of China to the east. Tajikistan has a population of approximately 7.3 million people, 20% of which live on less than $1.25 per day. The Physicians With Heart team will make an assessment trip to Tajikistan in March to determine the focus of both the airlift and the 2010 Children's Project. Check back for additional details!
The Children's Project, a companion program to Physicians With Heart, provides needed items to children in orphanages, institutions, schools or hospitals in the recipient country.
