During the 2019 Congress of Delegates in Philadelphia, the AAFP Foundation announced the establishment of a new endowment in honor of Doug and Mary Henley to celebrate their service to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the Foundation and family medicine over the last 43 years.

The Douglas and Mary Henley Fund will support the Family Medicine Leads signature program and provide scholarships for medical students to attend the National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students.

Research shows that attending National Conference increases the likelihood that students will choose family medicine as their specialty of choice. For that reason, Doug and Mary Henley announced a personal pledge of $100,000. Their vision and hope is that this amount is multiplied by a factor of two or three—or more!
