The UR Well clinic serves all uninsured and many underinsured patients ages 14 and older from Rochester, New York, and the surrounding areas.
Currently, they are in the process of opening a new clinic location in the Maplewood Neighborhood of Rochester. This community is located on the northwest side of Rochester, New York, with a large population of African Americans and Hispanics, many of whom speak primarily Spanish.
Two family physicians serve on the leadership team as advisors. These individuals provide valuable resources and a strong connection to the community and other area physicians. Since UR Well’s inception, regular volunteer physician preceptors have staffed the clinic without fail. Recently, a number of licensed Family Medicine and internal medicine residents have joined the physician preceptor pool and regularly help provide care to our expanding patient population.
UR Well has provided free health care for patients for more than ten years. The success of the organization has largely been made possible by a committed student body and devoted physician preceptors from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Of note, individuals serving in leadership roles at UR Well are selected from students who were most actively involved in the organization during their more junior years. This ensures that the leaders are not only committed, but are also aware of the administrative responsibilities involved in the operation of the clinics.
Lastly, to ensure that they continue to have enough student volunteers to support the growing clinic, UR Well has partnered with the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Beginning this fall, the clinic will begin providing interdisciplinary care with the addition of Family Nurse Practitioner Students to UR Well Clinic team.
