The AAFP Foundation and the AAFP National Research Network are partnering to establish the third and final signature program, Family Medicine Discovers. This partnership and scientific signature program will contribute to advancing the vision of building research capacity in family medicine in an exciting new way. Family Medicine Discovers’ vision is to cultivate scholarship and engagement among community family physicians to conduct rapid, feasible projects of innovative, high impact ideas with great potential for advancing new evidence and knowledge generation for family medicine.

As of December 31, 2018, the Foundation will no longer accept applications for the following:
- Joint Grant Awards Program (JGAP): $50,000 grants to help investigators research clinical questions in Family Medicine.
- Research Stimulation Grant Awards: $7,500 grants to serve as seed money for gathering data or laying groundwork for larger-scale research projects.
- Resident Research Grants (RRG): $2,000 grants to support residents in conducting short-term research projects that were completed and reported within a 1-year period. Residents were given the opportunity to present their research findings.
