Education initiatives
The educational support for future family physicians through the AAFP Foundation helps create a brighter future for the specialty. Through the Foundation, medical students and residents have access to a number of outstanding programs, mentors and faculty that ensure success as they pursue a career in family medicine.
Signature program: Family Medicine Leads
Family physicians serve as the patient's first contact for health concerns and studies show that this patient-centered care helps people live longer, healthier lives. The Family Medicine Leads program focuses on supporting efforts to fill the workforce pathway with both the quantity and quality of family physicians needed to improve the health of all people, as well as by supporting the development of future family medicine leaders.
Chapters and Chapter Foundations
The Family Medicine Chapter Alliance (FMCA) is a collaborative program of the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation and the Constituent Chapters and Chapter Foundations of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Student Externship Matching Grants
The Student Externship Matching Grant Awards program provides an important partnering opportunity between the AAFP Foundation, AAFP Chapters and Chapter Foundations.
The AAFP Foundation strives to create a sense of belonging through an inclusive environment that embraces the family medicine community by recognizing individual uniqueness and contributions to family medicine.
