Corporate Donor Spotlight: Amazon Pharmacy
Using Its resources and reach to improve medication access
Every year in the U.S., nearly one-third of prescriptions are never filled and half of medications for chronic conditions aren’t taken as prescribed. In addition, one in four neighborhoods in the U.S. are considered pharmacy deserts, and only 51 percent of customers report their prescriptions are filled quickly.
These factors, which contribute to poor health outcomes and billions in preventable health care costs, are what Amazon Health Services aims to address with Amazon Pharmacy — a proud donor of the AAFP Foundation.
The AAFP Foundation’s commitment to improving health for everyone aligns with Amazon Pharmacy’s mission to make the pharmacy experience better for both family physicians and patients. Working with the AAFP’s network of family medicine physicians allows Amazon to gain a clearer understanding of family physicians’ needs and to create solutions that support their practices while improving patient outcomes.
To expand medication access, Amazon Pharmacy is leveraging its vast delivery network, advanced logistics, and automated technology infrastructure to deliver medications faster — with same-day options in a growing number of locations.
“We’re re-envisioning medication delivery to focus on what customers need to better engage in their health,” said John Love, VP of Amazon Pharmacy. “We employ hundreds of pharmacists to ensure the highest quality clinical care and oversight of our growing pharmacy operations. We’re pairing our clinical teams with Amazon’s leading engineers to help customers enjoy a simple checkout experience, clear pricing directly on our site and fewer hoops to jump through when seeking care.”
The AAFP Foundation greatly appreciates Amazon Pharmacy’s support and is honored to work with a partner that is improving health care in innovative ways.
